Whilst our friends are away on the Battlefields trip (grrr), we’re going to have some fun coming up with some revision dominoes that we can test them with when they return.

We’re going to use this page (written by Mr Bailey Watson) to help us. Then we’re going to type some questions onto this page to build a set of dominoes that will really test those who’ve been lucky enough to go on the trip.

Manchuria

Over the last two lessons we’ve been looking at the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and the response of the League of Nations. You now have in your book a newspaper article that should cover the main events. If you get lost, or you find that your notes are not as you would like, then this power point (thank you Mr Clare) is really good.

League of Nations Quiz / Test

We’ve been working on the successes and failure of the League of Nations (there’ll be a post soon enough about this), and we’re starting to look at the reasons why the League started to fail in the 1930s.

So that we remind ourselves of the weaknesses in the structure of the League, Mr Glancy has kindly drafted a quiz sheet for us to complete and then revise for a test next Wednesday

Why didn’t the USA join the League of Nations?

We learned today that the USA congress (their parliament) didn’t want to join the League of Nations – so the USA never joined.

We started and finished by looking at a cartoon.

(We actually filled in this document at the end of the lesson).

Many people in the US wanted to stay out of the problems of Europe, and concentrate on getting back to normal after the war. This was called ‘Isolationism’. The USA had done really well out of the war, because they had lent money to the British and French. The British and French had used this money to buy weapons and equipment for the war.

In today’s lesson we learned that the League was made up of several different parts and we filled in this diagram.

Today we studied the treaties of St Germain, Sevres, Neuilly and Trianon.

We came up with this spider diagram at the end:

Hiya all. For our homework I asked you to write an answer to this question

Explain why the victors of the First World War didn’t get what they wanted in the Treaty of Versailles. (6)

One type of answer that was common in the stuff you handed in was this:

The victors of the First World War didn’t want the same things. Britain and France didn’t want a League of Nations. Clemenceau wanted crippling reparations. Wilson and Lloyd George didn’t want this to happen.

We’re going to work out a great way to improve this answer and get some cherries into it.
